I have been in the great city of
Banglore for a few days and have enjoyed meeting with some talented
folks. I was made aware of several positions open in a wide variety of
IT areas, but more importantly in Security. I asked the persons most
responsible for hiring why there were so many vacancies when the
unemployment was stable and even a bit high. Were they not getting
resumes?
They got tons of resumes. Lots of great experience. BE and ME
degrees. Seasoned with just enough gray hair to impress a client. I
kind of suspected the why of all this.
One hiring manager I dealt with extensively in Banglore said the
positive attitudes were gone. A few years ago, prospectives were
coached to show interest, do some research, be positive and be
respectful. Now they just show up with attitude and leave the positive
behind. One manager left a message for a person with a great resume.
She spelled her name et etc and got a nasty call back from the
prospective; PLEASE LEARN how to leave a message... Wow.
Other horror stories...the guy who showed up in pajama bottoms
bragging about "the other offers". Or, "Most people are idiots when it
comes to computers and I put up with them..."
So the security positions go unfilled. I like that. Better they tax
a few dependables than have to deal with snotty attitude and worry if
they really can be trusted.
The part about "most people are idiots..." was supposed to go away
as the number of well educated IT professionals grew and the market
tightened. It didn't. The IT Neanderthals still roam the earth.
